Elton John will wed his partner David Furnish close to his Windsor home and has been offered Legoland as a venue for his celebration, it was disclosed on December 5, 2005.

The theme park is one of 29 locations which will accept Sir Elton and Mr Furnish, who may be married by Clair Williams, the registrar who officiated at Prince Charles's wedding in April 2005.

The banns for the pop millionaire and the Canadian movie-maker were being posted at Windsor and Maidenhead Town Hall register office the afternoon of December 5, 2005.



This means they can marry on December 21, 2005, the first date available under the Act.

The Government estimates that between 11,000 and 22,000 people will marry under the new Act by 2010. Civil partnerships will give gay couples similar benefits to heterosexuals over capital gains and inheritance tax and pensions.

The Act could also see longstanding heterosexual friends of the same sex registering to take advantage of the financial incentives.

Sir Elton has said he is delighted by the Government's decision to give homosexuals the opportunity to wed. He said: "It will be a brilliant end to a brilliant year."

"I'll tell you something, though," he added, "we've had no shortage of offers for bridesmaids. We could've had the campest group of bridesmaids ever."
