Elton's hen night
Sunday, December 18 2005

Elton John will celebrate his "hen night" with a £100,000 show starring his top showbiz pals.

The amazing cabaret will be the centrepiece of a nightclub party being arranged by shoe designer Patrick Cox. Elton will tie the knot in a civil partnership ceremony with David two days later.

An insider revealed: "The party will take place at the Too2Much nightclub in London's Soho on December 19, 2005. It's going to be an incredibly starry affair and no expense is being spared. Patrick has been working round the clock to get everything ready."

Guests - expected to include Sting, Lenny Kravitz and George Michael - will drink £160-a-bottle champagne. They will be served luxury canapes by waiters wearing cowboy outfits costing £500 each. The catering bill is expected to top £50,000 while flowers worth a small fortune - including roses and orchids - have been ordered.

Rocker Bryan Adams will open the hour-long show with a pianist, who could be Sir Elton. Host Paul O'Grady will then introduce The Pet Shop Boys. The insider added: "One of the highlights will be Sir Ian McKellen doing a sketch in drag. He's thinking of coming as Widow Twankee and is going to make sure he has Elton in stitches."

Royal Ballet star Ivan Putrov will take to the stage with party girl Sam Taylor-Wood, a friend of Kate Moss. Comedy DJs the Cuban Brothers and a speech from Eric McCormack, of US sitcom Will and Grace, will follow. The source added: "Elton's a fan of US comedians Kiki and Herb and they've a sketch especially for him and David."

One of the strangest performances will come from O'Grady, who will sing a duet with broadcaster Janet Street-Porter. Speaking at the British Comedy Awards, O'Grady said: "I keep getting emails saying, 'Details to follow'. All I know is, I'm the compere.

"I do know it's a good line-up. I don't know what Ian McKellen's doing, but I don't even know what I'm f***ing doing! I think they haven't told me because they know I can't keep me gob shut."

O'Grady will be followed on stage by former Blue star Lee Ryan - in drag. Then Take That singer Gary Barlow will serenade the happy couple.

The Pet Shop Boys will return to sing It's A Sin before all the acts get together for a huge finale.
