Musical sendoff for Bob Birch
Saturday, September 1 2012

Friends and fans of the late Bob Birch, bass player for Elton John for some 20 years, will convene at the UDretroit Cafe in Harmonie Park at 9pm September 9, 2012 to reminisce, perform and take calls from his friends around the world (including, they are hoping, Elton) in a show hosted by Bob Bauer that will stream at udetroit.tv.

Bob, 58, was from St. Claires Shores and graduated from Lakeview High in 1974. Upon hearing of his bassist's August 15, 2012 death, Elton tweeted: "He was one of the greatest musicians I have ever worked with, and in all our years on the road he never played or sang a bad note."

Brian Pastoria of Harmonie Park/UDetroit grew up with Burch's cousins. "We hung out a lot, sharing great music and family time ... he was one of the nicest, kindest and most talented souls I ever met. Nobody knows or will ever understand the pain he had to endure since his near-fatal accident 17 years ago when he was hit by a truck while on tour in Montreal."

Anyone who wants to share memories of Bob can call +1-313-285-2020.
