Kate Bush saved my life tonight
Wednesday, August 13 2014

"This was one record that saved my life": Elton reveals how a Kate Bush track helped him kick his addiction to drink and drugs.

Elton has revealed how a Kate Bush song "saved his life" by helping him kick his addiction to drink and drugs. However, he has never told Bush just how much of an impact "Don’t Give Up", a 1986 duet with Peter Gabriel, had on his life.

Elton said: "This was one record that saved my life. That record helped me get sober. So she [Bush] played a big part in my rebirth. That record helped me so much. I never told her that but it did."

Bush’s contribution comes in the chorus when she sings: "Rest your head. You worry too much. It’s going to be all right. When times get rough you can fall back on us. Don’t give up." Elton makes the revelations in a new BBC documentary The Kate Bush Story: Running Up That Hill, which will be broadcast on BBC Four on August 22, 2014 at 9.10pm.
